19th Annual Short Grain Contest - Deadline: February 28, 2007

Grain invites entries for the 19th Annual Short Grain Contest. "Four categories, six grand in prizes, rock-star judges, starmaking-cred and other spoils to the victors." Categories include: Dramatic Monologue (500 words max), Postcard Story (500 words max.), Prose Poem (500 words max.), and Long Grain of Truth (non-fiction, 5000 words max.). Entry fee: $30 for two entries (includes subscription).
Deadline: February 28, 2007.

The Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award 2006

The second Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award will be made in September 2006 at the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Festival in Cork, Ireland. The prize is for 35,000 euros (approx US$42,500). When inaugurated in 2005 it was envisioned that the award would be for 50,000 euros given biannually. It has now been decided to award 35,000 euros annually, Eligible books are those by living authors, published for the first time, in English anywhere in the world, between October 2005 and September 15th 2006 (selecteds, collecteds or books containing stories published in a previous volume of stories by the author will not be eligible). Translations are eligible. If a translation wins, the prize will be split evenly between translator and original author.

Todays Woman Community

Todays-women are an interactive writing community for men and women, 18 years of age and over.
We have united in a warm friendship setting, resembling that of a coffee house to read and give feedback on one another's work. We encourage and build our writing techniques through feedback, weekly contests, recognition as poet and writer of the month, writing lessons and forum discussions. Cambridge Writers Fourth Open Poetry Competition - 2006

Poems may be in any style and on any theme. They should not exceed 40 lines in length. Entries should not have previously been published in print. Website publishing is acceptable. Entry fee is £2 per poem. Members of Cambridge Writers are entitled to three free entries, but in all other respects are bound by the rules of this competition.

Arvon International Poetry Competition

Over 16. Poets can submit as many poems as they like. It is £7 for the first poem and £5 for each one there after. The first prize is £5000. The closing date for entries is 15 September 2006. Sujata Bhatt, Michael Symmons Roberts and Edna Longley are the judges for this year’s Arvon International Poetry Competition 2006. Together they form a strong panel with an eclectic international flavour.
