Running from the 6-15 October, The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival is back in town for a feast of literary delights as we set forth on a quest for identity.
With a mix of literary legends, stars of the stage and screen and a sprinkling of political ponderings the Festival will become a hotbed for lively discussions, controversial debates and inspiring talks. A host of big names will be kept inline by this year’s guest directors: icon of British Culture Roger McGough, and one of the brightest rising stars on the literary scene Patrick Neate.
At the centre of this year's Festival is an exploration of identity. From debates on the nature of Britishness to exploring the enigma of consciousness 'who are we?' and 'what makes us who we are?' are among the many questions facing the guest speakers. The complex nature of literary identity will come into question with a wide range of authors asking 'what does it mean to be a contemporary British writer?'
In an exciting collaboration making its Festival debut in 2006 Cheltenham will play host to series of events hosted by Royal Shakespeare Company. Giving the Festival a truly theatrical theme some of RSC’s biggest stars will join us fresh from the Stratford stage in a celebration of Britain’s most famous bard and a quest for Shakespeare’s true identity.
Never one to shy away from controversial debate the 2006 Festival will again be a hotbed for debate over some of Britain's most burning questions. With a programme bursting with political ponderings, the nature of British politics, politician’s personal motivations and the changing role of the head of state will all come under the microscope.
With over 300 events spanning a journey of genres The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival really will be the only place for literature lovers to be seen. Call the box office on 01242 227979 to book your tickets and join in the quest for identity this autumn.
