Samar Habib received her doctorate from the University of Sydney, Australia, in the areas of cultural, sexuality and literary studies. Her monograph Female Homosexuality in the Middle East: Histories and Representations was recently published by Routledge. Along with academic articles and translations published previously in the online academic periodical EnterText Habib has published a number of creative works and poetry including the novel A Tree Like Rain (2005). Dr Habib is as lecturer in English Text and Writing at the University of Western Sydney’s school of Humanities and Languages. Her areas of specialization include Arab and Islamic popular culture, Middle East literature, history and politics as well as gay and lesbian studies.
Dr Habib is the chief editor of the online, international, academic periodical Nebula. Her translation of the Lebanese novel Ana Hiya Anti by Elham Mansour is currently under consideration by a commercial publisher.
