Maelstrom and I Take This Proof as Sound, poems published by Laura LeHew

Maelstrom

entering into fall you I we become a dragon
breathing icicles thirsting
for the pleasures of the flesh heart psyche
to be set free

dissonance painted onto your my our scales skin hide
layer after layer a polish without a remover
oak sycamore frosty hawthorn leaves
form up armies

indecision uncertainty emancipation begin
strafing what ifs 3 bedroom condos dollars a tornado of leaves
deliver an apple blossom into your my our taloned hand
will you I we dissolve transform rebirth?

I Take This Proof as Sound

Twilight begins to blur the border—
a dream gone walking

and if after so many words
the world fell away and I let it

I was only trying to do the right thing
words echoed hidden in the moon

too late for apologies
nothing battled down

where skin is a landscape
until the river crests

a tyranny of image unfolds
the crust of distant songs

was it all a hoax
a mended scandal

I summoned you through my hands
indifferent to resolution

to catch the lemon dark
I did not desire to stop

my body is nothing
there is wreckage under the skin

light comes out as particles
I used to substitute love for sex
LeHew, I Take This Proof as Sound
(new stanza)

influenced by diverse elements
at the time of selection

some sorrows spilt onto the floor
the day the doves came back empty

who knew all the answers
if not for the stars

the footprint of your absence
leaves that fell all night, thick and quiet

seeing ghosts in the mirrors
as the year shed it’s wings

wrapped in perception
I take this proof as sound

say that you will die for me
I can but only ask
