Waiting room in Kildare, poem published by Sultana Raza

      Hair done any which way
sneakered feet ready to go anywhere
      two girls wait to be
      picked up by someone
      of the male species
      transported somewhere

      deposited to the place
      they belong to
      should stay,
      remain forever
      in docile tranquility

      pretty heads filled by tiny,
      inconsequential, female
      trivia
      like cleaning, cooking,
      ironing, raising kids

      their bold leather jackets
      clinking heavy boots
      covering their vision
      keeping them from seeing
that the sporty, casual, tough look
      is just
      a ‘look’.
